Meditation FAQ

What is meditation?

A full explanation can be found on the What is Meditation page.

What are the benefits of meditation?

On a physiological level meditation results in decreased blood pressure, better circulation, lower pulse and metabolic rates and less muscular tension. It also affects the immune system and alters the levels of various hormones in the body. As such, meditation helps you calm down, become more aware of what is going on within, and to meet difficulties with honesty and acceptance.

Other benefits may include: improved concentration and performance, better health, increased sensory awareness, clarity of mind, greater appreciation and empathy for others, and emotional intelligence.

What type of meditation do you teach at the Melbourne Meditation Centre?

We do not teach one 'type' of meditation. Instead, we teach a range of techniques sourced from many different traditions. Emphasis is placed on teaching the principles of meditation - the 'basic building blocks' which every meditator needs to develop and understand in order to meditate effectively. This means students are given the opportunity to learn techniques that suit their own lifestyle and temperament, and they can be sure that they are learning the skills that others have found to be most useful.
