General Information

All our classes are conducted sitting on chairs in comfortable surroundings. There's no need to wear special clothing — many people come straight to class from work — but you might like to bring a bottle of water and pen and paper (if you're the note taking type). There's no religious element to our courses and people of all ages and backgrounds attend. It's our aim to make meditation as natural and comfortable as breathing. As such, we present meditation as a simple, practical skill.

Basic Meditation Courses

The basic course is suitable for beginners as well as meditators who wish to gain a clearer understanding of how meditation works.

During the course you learn various meditation techniques which can be used during the day to keep you in balance. You'll also learn meditations which encourage you to relax deeply.

You work with the meditations that appeal to you and they can all be easily tailored to meet your own needs. Feel free to peruse a synopsis of the course aims.

The course includes:

The Basic course is run in both four and six week formats. The courses cover the same material, however, in the six week course we introduce several techniques which we don't have time to cover in the four week course.

Intermediate Meditation Course

Intermediate Courses are designed to deepen your practice. They draw on and reinforces material covered in the basic course, introduce you to additional techniques, encourage you to become proficient with longer meditations, and aim to free you from dependence upon a teacher or guide.

We explore the skills of meditation in greater depth and look at more advanced aspects of meditation such as stillness, awareness and insight, concentration, mindfulness and emotional balance.

The courses are customised for attendees too — so if you have a particular interest in meditation for health, creativity or personal development, for example, we'll go into that in greater depth than is possible on the basic course.

From May 2009 we'll be running three different themed Intermediate Courses.

  1. Mindfulness
  2. Tranquility
  3. Balance

The mindfulness course focuses on integrating meditation more fully into your daily life.

The tranquility course focuses on learning how to enter and recognie the 'deeper' meditative states.

The balance course focuses on techniques you can use to maintain emotional balance.

Learn How to Meditate Workshops

These workshops are condensed forms of the Basic Meditation Course. They're designed as an introduction to meditation and will help you get started with a range of simple techniques. They are particularly suitable if you can't come to regular classes, if the next term is too far away, or if you just want to get a taste of what meditation is before committing to a full course. They're also a useful refresher for students who have completed a course already.

Consultations

Private consultations are useful:

If you can’t attend courses for whatever reason, usually two or three consultations with a follow-up are enough to get you started. If you want coaching, a few fortnightly or monthly sessions are ideal.

If you don't live in Melbourne, you can also arrange for phone or email consultations (phone is best).

Consultations are of one hour's duration and the cost for an individual session is $100 (plus travel surcharge if required).
